Searching the GRD - hints

There are 7 ways to retrieve information from the GRD:

Search under
  • Title
  • Author etc.
  • 3-14 Subject
  • 3-14 Level
  • 14-18 Subject
  • 14-18 (Classes)
  • Keywords (themes)

Information can be found using either one or multiple choice searches, for example:
to find resources on Expressive Arts (Na h-Ealain Chruthachail) at Level A but specifically related to animals (beathaichean) simply fill in the 3 relevant search options - 3-14 Subject,
3-14 Level and Keywords.

  • Title

If you know the title you are looking for then type it into the title box (there is no need to put an asterisk or full stop at the end) - then click on the 'Search the GRD' button.

  • Author etc:

Authors etc have been indexed by their initial(s) and surnames. It is advisable to key in the surname first and then the initial(s) as names with apostrophes such as A Mac a' Phì can prove a problem!

  • 3-14 Subject
  • 3-14 Level
  • 14-18 Subject
  • 14-18 (Classes)

A popup menu shows the search options for these 4 categories - click on the option(s) required from the menu.

 

  • Keywords (themes)

Where the title or author of a resource is not known the 'Keywords' option can be useful. All resources have associated keywords or related themes to assist in searching.

Tips

The more letters put into the search box the better chance there is of retrieving what you are looking for, eg. in Keywords keying in òran will retrieve all records which have òran as a keyword, whereas keying in oran luaidh will retrieve only those with òran luaidh.
Trying out the following sample searches may help illustrate how searching works.
