Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has stepped up efforts in the campaign to have Stornoway Black Pudding granted Protected Geographical Status by the European Union.
A petition has been placed in the Comhairle offices in Stornoway and everyone visiting the offices is invited to add their signature.
Comhairle Leader Angus Campbell said: “We are lucky in the Outer Hebrides to have such a first rate product as Stornoway Black Pudding. It is important that its identity is protected and that our butchers are supported in their efforts to gain this designation from Europe. I would urge everyone who is visiting the Comhairle offices over the next few days and weeks to add their name to the petition and keep up the pressure to gain this classification which will protect the product and local jobs.”
