Comhairle Appoints New Chief Executive

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has today appointed Mr. Malcolm Burr as Chief Executive.

Mr. Burr (39) is currently employed as Assistant Chief Executive of Orkney Islands Council. He previously worked for the Comhairle as Principal Solicitor.

As Chief Executive, Mr. Burr will be Head of the Paid Service within the Comhairle.

Mr. Burr was educated at George Heriot’s School in Edinburgh prior to studying Law at Edinburgh and Cambridge Universities. He has been President of the Orkney Society of Solicitors since 2001.

The Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Mr Alex MacDonald, said:
“I am delighted that Malcolm has taken up this key post in the Comhairle. He was a very strong candidate and up against considerable competition. There are many challenges ahead for the Western Isles and the role of Chief Executive will be instrumental in leading the paid service and fulfilling the aims and objectives set by the Comhairle. I look forward to welcoming Malcolm and Chrissie when they move back to the Western Isles”.

Malcolm Burr is married to Chrissie from Vatisker on Lewis. He will take up his new post in the Autumn.
