An Lanntair Bar Tender uses a card reader to verify the age of customer Michael Campbell with his Young Person’s Entitlement Card.

The Community Safety Partnership will be running an alcohol awareness quiz in An Lanntair from Monday 6th to 13th October 2008 for a chance to win the following prizes 1st prize a digital camera, 2nd prize a meal for 2 in An Lanntair (to the value of £50), 3rd prize £20 Woolworths voucher.  To support this initiative there will be an information stand in An Lanntair providing all kinds of guidance material about alcohol and safe drinking advice, awareness for parents and practical tips on alcohol units.

The partnership along with Comhairle Customer Services will have application forms available for anyone from the ages 11 to 25 who would like to sign up for the National Young Person’s Entitlement Card on Monday 6th, Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th October from 12.00 to 14.00. Everyone who signs up will be entered into a prize draw to win an i-pod shuffle.

The Outer Hebrides Community Safety Partnership is also encouraging licensed premises, garages and shops to use ‘Card Readers’ which can electronically verify National Young Person’s Entitlement Cards and show whether young customers are eligible to buy age restricted products such as alcohol, cigarettes, lighter fuel etc.

The Partnership is offering licensed premises the opportunity to purchase card readers at a 25% of the cost price.  Staff will then be able to electronically scan National Young Person’s Entitlement Cards which verify the holder’s age and identity.

To purchase a card reader, contact Sharon Evans 01851 709512
